Okay, so "the due date" is one of those pieces of pregnancy that every doctor uses as a yardstick to measure progress by, yet, is VERY careful to remind you doesn't mean you'll have the baby that day...its one of those pieces of pregnancy that everyone asks you about constantly, "When are you due?" ESPECIALLY at the end, yet, again...no one wants you to go get too excited about the actual date, lest you freak out when your due date arrives and there is no baby.
This time around we went into the Doctor knowing exactly when my last menstrual period was, how long my cycle has been (32 days), and the day that the child was conceived...even the TIME OF DAY the kid was created...none of this seemed to matter to my OB...he was set with the date that his little i-touch gadget gave him...March 4. Now, this may seem picky, but THAT'S NOT MY DUE DATE....my due date is February 28...I know, I know, we're talking about four days, but please, ask any woman who is 40 weeks pregnant and she'll surely tell you that four days DOES matter.
At our ultrasound the technician did all the measurements and came up with...February 28th as our due date...I figured that this discovery (and my previous load of information of knowing my body and its goings on) would sway my OB, but to no avail. He informed me that he only changes my chart if there is a discrepancy of a week or more. AND reminded me that my due date is only an estimation. I understand that he's right...however, in my case...I was in the hospital having my babies on ALL THREE of their due dates (they understand my need for punctuality, I guess)!
So, I'd like to simply let it be known that my due date is February 28, 2010...my doctor can refuse to change my chart, but I know the truth (and had visual confirmation from babycenter.com when I filled out their chart). End of story.
